Working out when you’re just starting can be intimidating.
There are so many different exercises and types of workouts, it can be overwhelming trying to pick one.
Which one is the right one?
Which one is going to get me results the fastest?
You want something that’s not overly complicated that’s going to help you to start seeing results as fast as possible.
I get it, I’ve been there.
Literally. I lost over 40+lbs over 5 years ago now and I started exactly where you are right now.

the Workouts
With that out of the way, let’s get into the workouts.
Should you only be doing full-body workouts if you’re a beginner?
If you want to get that lean toned look, whether you’re a beginner or not, no, you don’t only want to be doing full-body workouts.
For best results, you want to have a plan that also focuses on specific muscle groups.
A workout plan laid out strategically and correctly allows for rest and recovery on the muscles so that they have time to recover and get stronger.
If weight loss and that lean, toned look are your goals, I highly recommend you have a plan that incorporates full body and muscle group specific workouts.
Full-Body Home Workout or Full-Body Gym Workout?
If you’re still a beginner, should you workout at home or the gym?
That depends on a few different factors.
None of which have anything to do with if you’re a beginner or not.
It’s all about personal preference and goals.
I know when I first started working out, I only wanted to work out at home.
Mainly because I didn’t know what the eff I was doing, and I was embarrassed.
Gym-timidation
Especially if you’re just starting going to the gym.
You feel like everyone is looking at you, judging you.
Heck, even today I sometimes feel like that if I run into a new piece of equipment I haven’t seen before.
Here’s a couple of secrets that might make you feel better though..
- No one is watching you. I know it FEELS like they are, but 99.9% of people at the gym are too busy and concerned with what they’re doing to care about watching what other people are doing.
- Everyone else started on day 1 too. No one is born knowing how to workout. Everyone in that place started somewhere and felt just as out of place. It gets better.

So whether you want to workout at home or the gym is totally dependant on you.
The gym offers a wider variety of equipment.
This makes it easier to find exercises that target different muscle groups.
That also means it allows for more variety.
If you’re really focused on gaining muscle, it’s definitely easier to do at the gym.
Unless you have an extensive home gym setup of course.
That doesn’t mean you can’t lose weight and get toned at home though.
Widget not in any sidebars
If you’re someone who is extremely busy and only has 30 minutes a day to devote to working out, then a home workout is probably better for you.
It all depends on your life and what you will stay most consistent with.
Emphasis on consistent!
That’s the key to results.
Both home and gym have pros and cons.
Try them both, see what works best for you.
Maybe a mix of both! Get crazy! 😛

I mentioned having a strategic plan and staying consistent is key.
I started just where you are right now and I struggled to find a good starting plan that fit my needs.

That’s why I created my own 8-week total body transformation plan here.
I have a home and gym workout version available, so whatever your preference is, there’s a plan for you!
Both come with the nutrition plan included!
I would love to help you crush your goals!
